Lowryââ¬â¢s The Giver Free Essays
Character isolationism and the struggles surrounding solitude are recurring themes in many great pieces of literature. Lowryââ¬â¢s The Giver is an excellent work of contemporary fiction whose main character, Jonas, struggles with such a burden. In order to properly identify character relationships of isolation, I will compare and contrast The Giver with two other well-known pieces of adolescent literature: The Outsiders by S. We will write a custom essay sample on Lowryââ¬â¢s The Giver or any similar topic only for you Order Now E. Hinton and Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. Jonas, in The Giver, views his hometown as the perfect place, a utopia that is self-contained and free of ruinous element such as conflict, illness, divorce, and inequality. He comes from a loving, demonstrative family unit: father, mother, one brother, one sister. Everyone in his hometown fits this perfectly balanced poster-family mold. Itââ¬â¢s a gift-wrapped location to raise a family, or so we are led to believe. His family, as are all families in this utopia-like society, has good communication methods and are supportive of one another. Lowry creates such a background to impact his theme of a protagonist teetering into the realm of isolationism. The author uses the omniscient point of view of Jonas throughout the story. As the reader envisions the story solely through Jonas, we see his family is supposed shares their feelings and emotions when issues arise. Itââ¬â¢s almost too perfect. Yet perfection\ diminishes when we discover, through foreshadowing, that a certain pilot who was in a plane crash was to be ââ¬Å"released from the community. â⬠The speakerââ¬â¢s voice takes the situation lightly, even with a hint of humorââ¬âa marker that something is amiss. One of the main themes in The Giver is individuality verses conformity. This parallels Jonasââ¬â¢s struggles with isolationism. Lowry leads us to believe in this utopia. Yet, as Jonas and other children freely choose jobs to increase their own knowledge base, it becomes apparent that the Elders have another purpose for them. The Elder will be choosing what direction their future will go once they are twelve years-old. Later, Jonas shares a provocative dream he had about Fiona. Jonas is pleased with the pleasure his dream brings to him. Lowry wrote, And the nakedness, too. It was against the rules for children or adults to look at anotherââ¬â¢s nakedness; but the rule did not apply to newchildren or the Old. (p. 30) This statement speaks volumes about the sexual racism and tensions that were prevalent in the society of The Giver which can be compared to the pressures that revolved around the status of wealth in The Outsiders and Catcher in the Rye. The Giverââ¬â¢s protagonist accepts this rule as Lowry responds to the rule against seeing other people naked. Jonas was glad. It was a nuisance to keep oneself covered while changing for games, and the required apology if one had by mistake glimpsed anotherââ¬â¢s body was always awkward. (p. 30) The author gives us subtle hints of Jonasââ¬â¢s isolation that is to come. He liked the safety here in this warm and quiet room (p 30) According to the Elders ââ¬Ëtouchingââ¬â¢ other people outside of oneââ¬â¢s immediate family was deemed rude and inappropriate behavior. His mother informs him that heââ¬â¢ll be taking a pill to help him. This is one more way for the Elders to control their youth. In event, this leads to Jonas into isolationism. Jonas begins to feel sad. When Gabe is actually allowed to live with Jonasââ¬â¢s family, the community sets boundaries. Gabe can stay but they are not allowed to become emotionally attached to him. The communitiesââ¬â¢ means of controlling its people sinks Jonas further into isolation. Jonas speaks with the Chief Elder in chapter eight, bringing to light the impact of his isolation. The Chief Elder says, ââ¬Å"But you will be faced now,â⬠she explained gently, ââ¬Å"with pain of a magnitude that none of us here can comprehend because itââ¬â¢s beyond our experienceâ⬠¦. So, because the Elders, hid their true motive, children are torn emotionally from what was to be a perfect life. When we consider the novel, The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton we find many parallels with The Giver. Both have themes centered on isolationism and what sort of grave effects it can have on an individual, a family, or a town. There are also contrasting differences in these two novels. Both of w hich will be discussed in detail. The Outsiders is a story of two teenage gangs: the socs and the greasers. This novel is a classic East versus West scenario in a small Oklahoma town in the 1960ââ¬â¢s. The socââ¬â¢sââ¬âwhich is an abbreviation for socialsââ¬âis a gang of affluent teenage hoodlums that drive fast cars, get the pretty girls, and have the social markings of upper class due to their familyââ¬â¢s economic status. The greasers are the gang of teenage boys that come from the lower class, most being raised in broken homes where mom or dadââ¬âor sometimes neither parentââ¬âis around to provide guidance. One contrasting difference here is the fact that The Giver opens with families living in a utopia-like geographic area where every single family fits the perfect family unit of a father, mother, and two siblings. This family unit is structured with communication skills as well where issues are discussed on a daily basis. There are no racial tension or inequality issues to speak of in The Giver, either. S. E. Hinton, on the other hand, creates a real-life scenario that parallelââ¬â¢s lifestyles in Oklahoma in the 1960ââ¬â¢sââ¬âwhich is when the book was written by an actual teenager. Thus, The Outsiders displays how dysfunctional families operate. There is constant conflict among siblings and taunting between the greasers and the socs. Being in a gang instantly offers the teenage-societies an extended family. They trust one another and wound die for each other. The families within the gang understand one another because they can relate to one anotherââ¬â¢s pain and suffering. Even when they are faced with such constant emotional struggles, physical entanglements, and trouble with law enforcement, the gang members are on the same wave-length and follow one another. In The Giver, the families live in an apparent pristine environment that directly opposes this. The parents and children form proper communication channels by discussing issues at dinnertime. Some of the characters in the Outsiders are lucky if they get dinner every night. Yet, the path of isolationism for Jonas is the genesis for the characterââ¬â¢s circumstances. He cannot free himself of this downward spiral, even when heââ¬â¢s placed in such a positive environment. S. E. Hinton, on the other hand, displays characters coming together in the worst of times. Another parallel, in The Outsiders, ties into the issue of separation from family. Here, teens are often led to see things as only right or wrong. But, as we know, circumstances in life are rarely black and white. Too many intricacies are involved when teens are struggling to survive and discover their way to be viewed as simply all-right or all-wrong. The protagonists in both Hintonââ¬â¢s and Lowryââ¬â¢s novel have underlying subplots of youths trying to discover their place in life. Another comparison is the fact that both authors play into the common-knowledge ideal that says, life isnââ¬â¢t fair. Whether life is fair to the socââ¬â¢s or the greasers is seen differently. The socââ¬â¢s desire the glamour and status that goes along with their affluent upbringing. The greasers, on the other hand, desire a different image. They donââ¬â¢t want to be associated with the upper crust of society. According to a greaser, the money, clothes, and cars, are the last thing theyââ¬â¢d ever view as a priority in life. In fact, they despise them, mainly for how society treats the lower class. However, both gangs are products of a lifestyle where parental upbringing doesnââ¬â¢t show respect to their children because parents are unwilling to listen to the youthââ¬â¢s ideas, desires, and needs. These are the precise components that led to Jonasââ¬â¢s separation from the family unit. In the novel, Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger, we find similar connections in the background of each story. Both novels depict a protagonist coming from an affluent upbringing. Salingerââ¬â¢s novel is set in a post World War II time when the nation was trying to make a financial recovery. Holden goes to a private school and money is of no concern to him, his family, or his immediate peer group. The breadwinner in Catcher in the Rye, Holdenââ¬â¢s father, is a corporate attorney that is only interested in money, golf, and fancy toys such as classy cars. Freedom from financial concerns is a comparative attribute for Holden and Jonas. Holden and his father donââ¬â¢t understand one another which can be compared to Jonas and a discussion he has with the Elders in Chapter 20. ââ¬Å"What about you? Do you lie to me, too? â⬠Jonas almost spat the question at The Giver. ââ¬Å"I am empowered to lie. â⬠This grave scene in The Giver brings to light how painful an entire childhood can be. Itââ¬â¢s the parents and Elders were not true to their children and thus impacts the life of our protagonist. Holdenââ¬â¢s father is also blinded by money and his status as a corporate lawyer. This puts barriers up between him and his son. These barriers are like lying to Holden, causing him harm as he tries to find his place in society. Just as Jonas is the protagonist and narrator, Holden is also the narrator and protagonist of Catcher in the Rye. The impact of the stories theme and character relationships in both stories can be felt on a deeper level when we experience the story solely through the protagonistââ¬â¢s eye. Another contrasting element between the protagonists for S. E. Hinton and J. D. Salinger is how the characters are introduced to the story. It is very clear that Holden is struggling with life. He is 16 years-old with partially gray hair, thin, and out of shape. He smokes cigarettes as well. Jonas, on the other hand, is raised in this Eden-like village where everyone moves through life free of stress and ailments. Furthermore, Holden is an angry teen who is very confused and depressed. He also displays characteristics of bigotry which contrasts Jonasââ¬â¢s lifestyle of equality. Holton, however, is an evil person but he can be kind and even thoughtful which matches the characteristic expectations of the children in The Giver. In fact, almost every person had similar physical features as can be seen in the following citation: Almost every citizen in the community had dark eyes. His parents did, and Lily did, and so did all of his group members and friends (p. 20). Yet a distinction is drawn in Jonas as the author followed the above citation with this: But there are a few exceptions: Jonas, himself, and a female Five who he had noticed the different, lighter eyes. Thus, we are given hints of Jonasââ¬â¢s differences. This contrasts the obvious struggles that are in Holtonââ¬â¢s persona. As I looked collectively at the comparisons and contrasting differences between The Giver and the two other novels, I found the likenesses to be more apparent than the differences. Each of the novels under study all had a theme of isolationism. On top of this, the protagonists and most of the minor characters in all the novels were children and young adults who struggled with loss, depression, conflict, and illness. Each story brought the reality of separation and isolationism to light as the youth banded together to overcome obstacles. The stories display how great an impact deceit, control, and lack of compassion can have on individuals growing into adulthood. People can shut down and sink into isolation. The burden of all this can either lead people away from following their dreamsââ¬âsometimes destroying themselves into a pit of isolation. The strong-willed, however, find a way to learn from these challenging situations and discover ways to help themselves so that they, in turn, can help friends and loved ones. Design of Climbing Mechanism for a Tree Climbing Robot free essay sample
The evolution in nature has led to the introduction of highly efficient biological mechanisms. Imitating these mechanisms offers enormous potentials for the improvement of our life and the tools we use. We have devised this mechanism inspired from the locomotion of a worm called Stomatapod which uses its whole body as distributed foot facilitating it to move on any terrain and have high agility on a regular tree environment. The gripper assembly designed uses a flexible casing which grasps the tree trunk of almost all diameter within the predefined range, basically it uses passive compliance. This mechanism can be used for climbing trees which are almost straight like coconut trees and poles. Hence this paper presents a new climbing mechanism for coconut tree climbing robot. 1. INTRODUCTION Researchers all around the world work on climbing robots ([1], [2], [3]) most of these climbing robots are capable of climbing regular structures like poles, walls, domes etc. We will write a custom essay sample on Design of Climbing Mechanism for a Tree Climbing Robot or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page But a very few are capable of climbing trees, main reason being irregular surface and variation of diameter with length .It also requires greater agility and high maneuverability to be used as a product. Also the bark of some trees may not be strong enough to bear the weight of the climbing device, hence conventional climbing robots cannot be used for tree climbing applications. Many trees like coconut tree, arecanut tree, and palm trees are so tall that climbing them becomes risky. Hence harvesting fruits and nuts and maintaining them becomes difficult. So development of a unique tree climbing mechanism is necessary which may be used for maintaining and harvesting applications. Most commonly used design for tree climbing is inch worm design ([4], [5]). These models are very slow. The main body of this type of robot is divided into two parts and each part has a gripper. These models using inch worm mechanism are continuous in their motion and can maneuver in complex tree environments involving multiple branches ([6]). Next common type of design is wheeled robot wherein instead of grippers wheels are used for climbing up. The robot engulfs the tree and locks against it and as the motor rotates, it moves up. The sizes of these robots are comparable to the diameter of tree. These models are suitable for trees with straight and plain trunks .The main drawback is it being slow and there is a possibility of them damaging the tree trunk. ([7]). Hence most of the models are slow, less agile, have less load carrying capacity. As a result we propose a tree climbing mechanism that can be used to climb trees that are almost straight, like coconut trees and poles with greater agility. The main locomotion of the robot is caused due to the two motors which facilitates simultaneous motion of two consecutive links (figure3). This robot grasps the tree with the help of grippers which is acted by a spring. When the motor is ON it unclamps and clamps while the motor is OFF by spring action while harnessing the spring energy for gripping. When one gripper grasps the tree, the whole body makes a revolution such that the next gripper comes up and grips while the other ungrasps and the whole process continues. Attachments like pesticide sprayer, weed remover or some harvesting mechanism can be mounted on the Robot. With these attachments this robot can act as harvesting or maintenance equipment by the farmers.

Show, Dont Tell How to Show Not Tell in Writing With Examples
Show, Dont Tell How to Show Not Tell in Writing With Examples Show, Dont Tell: How to Show Not Tell in Writing With Exercises When you start writing a book, itââ¬â¢s as if everyone around you becomes the expert. They tell you to show dont tell, start with action, or even embellish your stories to sound ââ¬Å"better.â⬠But how do you know what advice to takeand what do those writing tips even mean in the first place? Were here to help you understand showing versus telling and how that will actually help you write better and stronger.Itââ¬â¢s safe to say that the idea of showing not telling is one all writers should pay close attention to.Show donââ¬â¢t tell in writing is a piece of advice thatââ¬â¢s been around for longer than you might realize. Even if it didnââ¬â¢t have a phrase attached to it yet, the best authors out there have been using it for the duration of their careers (and even before, most likely).Heres how to show dont tell in writing:Understand what show dont tell meansLearn from examples of showing versus tellingCut the sensing words to show dont tellAvoid emotional explain ing when showing not tellingDescribe body languageUse strong verbs to show dont tellFocus on describing sensesPractice showing not telling every dayIn fact, itââ¬â¢s why theyââ¬â¢re known as the best writers of all time. But although these writers knew how to bring their writing to life instinctually, not all of us are so lucky. We have to learn the process of show donââ¬â¢t tell, which can be tricky if you donââ¬â¢t know where to start.NOTE: We cover everything in this blog post and much more about the writing, marketing, and publishing process in our VIP Ficiton Selfs:These examples are pretty basic but thatââ¬â¢s the best way to gain an understanding of what this looks like. Keep in mind that your sentences may be more complex than these examples, but still full of tell words or phrases. Be on the lookout for the details.Show Dont Tell Example #1:Tell: I heard footsteps creeping behind me and it made the whole situation scarier.â⬠Show: ââ¬Å"Crunching hit my e ars from behind, accelerating the already rampant pounding of my heart.â⬠Why this showing example is better:In an instance such as this, you want the reader to feel what you did: the surprise and the sense of urgency, the fear. Describing the crunching that hit your ears even through the pounding of your heart not only creates a powerful visual, but it also tells the reader the state your body was in during that intense moment. The first example is weak and does little to explain how you actually felt in that moment. Show Dont Tell Example #2:Tell: ââ¬Å"She was my best friend. I could tell her almost anything.â⬠Show: I met her at the town square, running in for our usual hug that carried on for far too long as we gushed about our lives with smiles lighting our faces.â⬠Why this showing example is better: The first example of telling is shorter, but it doesnââ¬â¢t do a great job of really showing the impact you have on each other. Anyone can think of ââ¬Å"best f riendâ⬠and form an overall thought about what that looks like. But this isnââ¬â¢t just ââ¬Å"anyone.â⬠This is your best friend. Showing your relationship with one another is vital to forging that deeper connection. Why should you show donââ¬â¢t tell in writing? The entire point of showing versus telling in writing is to make a stronger emotional connection with your readers and hook them. They already picked up your book for the killer title and eye-grabbing cover, but they need a reason to stay. The idea behind this writing technique is to put the reader in your shoes. Make them feel, hear, and sense the situation as you did.Itââ¬â¢s about creating an experience for the reader instead of just a recount of events.Doing this makes the reader want to root for you. They want to hear your whole story and in turn, theyll read your whole book. Why is showing not telling also important for non-fiction?If you write fiction, you hear this advice all the time. However, all of you non-fiction writers out there, this piece of writing advice might be new to you.Show donââ¬â¢t tell isnââ¬â¢t always the first thing a non-fiction writer thinks of when it comes to adding more intrigue to your story. But it is the most vital for pulling your reader in and not only hooking them, but keeping them with you throughout the duration of your book. Many fiction writers hear this writing advice often because itââ¬â¢s one of the best ways to make real people feel deeply for fictional characters. When it comes to writing a story about your life and something you went through, the idea is the same. By showing and not telling, youââ¬â¢ll be able to guide them through your real-life situation as an experience and not just some book theyââ¬â¢re reading while the kids are yelling at their video games and the oven alarm is blaring in the distance. If you can show donââ¬â¢t tell the right way, the reader wonââ¬â¢t even notice those distractions. How to Show Donâ â¬â¢t Tell in WritingSo now you know what it is and why itââ¬â¢s important, but how the heck do you actually do it? The process of taking a single story and crafting it to create more emotion can be difficult.Thankfully, we have some of the best tips for showing not telling in writing.#1 Get rid of all basic sensory wordsPhrases like, ââ¬Å"I heard,â⬠ââ¬Å"I felt,â⬠and ââ¬Å"I smelled,â⬠are all very weak. These are ââ¬Å"tellingâ⬠words and phrases (also commonly referred to as filters) that force the reader further away from you and your experience.Thatââ¬â¢s exactly what you want to avoid.Instead, you need to pull them into your world and into your psyche the very moment you were encountering the situation. This is done through using strong verbs and other visual language.Show Dont Tell Exercise #1:Step 1: Read through your writing and circle every telling word you can find. Anything that explains one of the 5 senses.Step 2: Then write down speci fics for each. If you heard someone creeping up behind you, how did you hear it? Was it crunching on gravel? Was it the shuffling of shoes against carpet?Once you have these, rewrite those sections by explaining how the senses manifested to you and not just what you sensed (detailed below in the next writing exercise).#2 Donââ¬â¢t use ââ¬Å"emotion explainingâ⬠wordsThis might be a bit tricky and you certainly donââ¬â¢t have to follow this one 100% of the time, but if you can get this right, itââ¬â¢ll make showing versus telling so much easier to grasp.Think of any word to describe an emotion. Iââ¬â¢ll help you out a little:HappySadAngryFrustratedExcitedGiddyLoveAnxiousJoyDisgustI could go on, but I think you get the idea. These are all great words to describe how someone felt. However, theyre also very weak, unexciting ways to do so.If you need your readers to understand how excited you were at any given time, show them. Donââ¬â¢t just tell them, ââ¬Å"I was s o excited!â⬠Show them the sweat beading your forehead as you raced to your destination. Show them the lifting of your cheeks as your lips parted way for an uncontrollable smile.Show Dont Tell Exercise #2: Skim through your writing and circle every word thatââ¬â¢s an emotion. Then, for every emotion-explaining word you find, write down physical reactions of feeling that way.Once you have a small list for each circled word, use it to craft a couple sentences to describe (and show!) just what that looked like. You can see the difference alone between these two paragraphs. By replacing all of the ââ¬Å"tellingâ⬠words and phrases, it develops into an experience for the reader and not just a retelling of what happened.#3 Describe body languageOne of the best ways you can show not tell in writing is to use strong descriptive language when it comes to body language.A personââ¬â¢s actions are really a gateway to their mind and how they feel. You can tell if another person ha s a crush on someone just by paying attention to the way their body adjusts when in that personââ¬â¢s presence, right?Showing versus telling in writing is exactly that. You want to show the reader what is happening and allow them to form a conclusion about how you or others in your story felt based on what they look like.In all honesty, a lot of this one is about having faith that your audience can put two and two together.Oftentimes, we tend to over explain in an effort to make something obvious when really, the emotion is in the guesswork; itââ¬â¢s in allowing someone to draw their own conclusions. That over-explaining is what comes across as ââ¬Å"tellyâ⬠and not as emotionally compelling. And honestly? Its also pretty boring and flat.If you do a great job of showing what you want readers to see, theyââ¬â¢ll understand how someone feels and theyââ¬â¢ll even feel that way themselves.Thatââ¬â¢s the power of showing not telling.#4 Use strong verbsShowing itsel f can be extremely impactful, but using strong language and verbs in specific situations is even more powerful for adding depth to your story. The way you make someone else actually feel how you did as you were going through the experience is to make sure the words youââ¬â¢re using directly reflect the emotions. This can be a difficult task for those who arenââ¬â¢t sure what ââ¬Å"strong languageâ⬠looks likes, but Iââ¬â¢ll make it easier for you.Show Dont Tell Exercise #3: Think of a situation you want to explain in your book (or maybe something you already have written out). Now imagine what feeling you want to convey through that scene. What do you want your readers to take away from that specific moment in your story? List those emotions so you can see all of them.Take that list and start writing ways in which you can bring those emotions to life. What do those things mean for you? How would these emotions manifest during that specific time? Now take those stronger v erbs and words that depict a deeper emotion and craft your sentence or paragraph with those to reflect how you truly felt. How does this sentence make you feel? Do you feel comfort, relaxation, and a sense that I love being there? That was the purpose. Itââ¬â¢s about taking one specific idea or vibe or feeling and using what you know to transform it into something thatââ¬â¢s showing not telling. This specific example for show donââ¬â¢t tell can be a little time-consuming at first, but you will get the hang of it and these methods will soon become second nature to you.#5 Focus on describing sensesWe told you to cut sensing words in tip #1, and thats true, but with this comes the fact that you still have to describe what your character is feeling and sensing.Showing versus telling is largely about allowing your readers to interpret what your characters are going through without just telling them. This often means using all the senses you can to depict a scene.Instead of saying, She hated it there. you can use her senses to show the readers that emotion. For example: writing with showing like this The faint scent of stale cigarette smoke met her nostrils, pulling her face into a familiar grimace. allows your readers to understand that she finds where she is distasteful, without having to just say so.#6 Practice showing not telling every dayTo master the tip of show dont tell in writing, it takes time and practice to get it right. Theres a fine line of using showing versus telling in your writing. With regular practice (by writing every day, we suggest), youll learn when to use telling and when to use showing in order to give the reader the best reading experience they have. You can even practice by reading other books and your own writing. Recognizing areas of showing can help you do it more in your own works.Whatto do Next?Show donââ¬â¢t tell can be difficult to master unless youââ¬â¢re constantly thinking about it. But because this specific writing sk ill is vital for building strong emotional connections, you have to implement this information.Hereââ¬â¢s what you can do going forward.#1 Join your FREE trainingYou canââ¬â¢t have too much knowledge when it comes to writing and publishing.

Basant Should Not Be Banned
Basalt should be allowed to celebrate as it has now become a part of our peoples culture, heritage and lifestyle and nobody has a right to ban them. Basalt is deeply rooted in peoples psyche and lifestyle. Most the public are not only against the ban on Basalt but also are offended by this government decision. Main E]AZ, acting district coordination officer during the Decos absence said, Basalt should not be banned because It attracts people from all over the world and is a cultural event. He lamented about grave problems caused by Basalt but said that the public was unwilling to support a ban (All 7). Basalt has been in our tradition from a long time and has become a custom and very important part of our lives. But there are some people especially elisions ones who raise the point of Basalt being a Hindu festival and demand a ban on it. Actually this is not the case; this is Just wrong accusation made by these people to show their importance in the community. The Hindu festival which these people refer is Vacant Panoramic which is also called Basalt. Vacant Panoramic is the Hindu festival that highlights the advent of spring. It is a Hindu festival celebrating the glory of Shirtwaist, the goddess of knowledge, music and art. In India particularly Indian Bengal, during this festival children are taught to write their first words; Brahmins are fed; ancestors worship (Pit-tartan) Is performed; the god of love Kamikaze Is worshipped ( Manhood). The festival Hindu celebrates only Limits to worshipping, wearing same color clothes and meeting each other. There Is no sign of kite flying In their festival. So our tradition Is different from theirs. This means that to say this festival Is UN-locals Is a wrong statement. Basalt Is a huge and a big festival which Is recognized all over the world. It Is a sport which mainly exists In Pakistan but Is well known to all the rest of the world. It Is a colorful festival consisting not only of tie flying but also of music. People gather together to enjoy and celebrate the arrival of spring. Basalt is also a way of attracting tourists not only national but also international.According to the newspaper reporter, Hasty Sadder, It attracts tourists, not just locally but from all over the world (7). Because of the uniqueness of Basalt, Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab, the Basalt Kite Festival, held in Lahore, has become such a major tourist attraction that people flock from countries worldwide to participate in this unique occasion. The increase in tourism due to Basalt in turn boosts the economy of Pakistan. It provides different sources of income to the country; through hotels, restaurant and others ways.Another reason why Basalt should not be banned is the amount of revenue generated from it is enormous. There are several ways in which revenue is generated during the Basalt. Thousands of people travel and visit Pakistan to Join in the festival. The revenue from the hotels greatly increases during Basalt because of the increased tourists. Kite flying is not the only way of generating revenue. During the festival a lot of events sake place such as musical events and food streets are Jammed packed with people. The intense economic activity that went with Basalt (trade, travel, hotel, tourism, shopping, etc. ) was touching the $ 250 million mark ? not bad, for a week-long celebration. To top it off various other quality festivals started around the Basalt bonanza (notably the music conference and the international drama and puppet festival) (Mira 3). However, there is some opposition and criticism about the Basalt being not profitable, rather resulting in losses due to damages done on the electric wires and poles.According to All Prevail, a newspaper reporter, Basalt also faced opposition from Water and Power Development Authority (WPAD) and its distribution companies mainly the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESSON) and Granular Electric Power Company (COP) as kite flying also resulted in frequent power tripping besides damaging the sensitive installations of WPAD and its companies. The main cause of this power failure is the use of metallic or chemical- coated string. These strings, when comes contact with electric wires causes the wire to tear and power tripping. But this is a problem which can be easily resolved. By introducing and properly implementing a law which impose a ban on the use of such types of strings can result in overcoming this power failure and claims made by these companies. Kite flying business is a very large one. The industry related to it is very large with a very large market. About a week or two before the Basalt, shopkeeper starts to make preparations of selling kites and strings. Huge numbers of shops are set up and people invest millions of rupees in the trade. Many people are employed in the factories in which kites and strings are made. String and kite makers are irking overtime on roadsides and in small factories in places like Shadier, Murdered, Buchannan, Chair and Shadbush. Kite making has become a sort of cottage industry involving even women and children the year round (Hanoi). So if Basalt is banned, thousands of workers will get unemployed. There would be no source of income for such families and they would be in a very bad condition. For example, during the Basalt the owners of the previously abandoned and dilapidated houses in Glissandos food street become rich overnight as many multi-national companies hustle to rent their rooftops for the occasion. The ban on Basalt would affect them along with other in the kite flying business very roughly. The main incidents that lead to the ban on Basalt were the use of the metallic and chemical- coated strings. Basalt was officially banned in 2005 when a great deal of people in various cities including Rawlins lost their lives due to metallic or chemical-coated issue regarding the ban was the damages that these razor-sharp strings caused. Many people lost lives by getting their neck cut by strings while driving motorcycles or walking. But banning is not the solution. Government should restrict the use of these types of strings. Also during these two days of kite flying, government should set a curfew on the people walking and driving motorcycles because most of the accidents happen to them. The government should alternatively provide free public bus transport during these days to accommodate people who want to travel. In conclusion, Basalt should not be banned as it creates revenue for a country and most importantly is a part of our culture. To ban Basalt is Just like erasing an integral part our culture which is unacceptable. Yes, there have been many unfortunate incidents in the recent past but banning Basalt because of them is not the solution. For example, no government has banned flying of aircraft because some planes have crashed in the long history. They rather focused on making flying a safer experience. Likewise, the government should focus on making this festival safer by reducing loss to life and property to minimum and nil if possible. Designated grounds should have been prepared for flying kites and citizens who wish to participate in the activity should have been facilitated to do so in safety in these designated areas. Banning a festival which was like the smile of a child in spirit is too harsh a step ?akin to rendering the city soulless (Sadder 7).

Adding to these will be the recent developments in U.S.-Syria relations under President Bashar al Asad and how these development have been thwarting prospects to achieve peace in the Middle East. This report of the study entails a brief understanding of the theoretical framework that will guide the investigation in to the developments in the Syria Israel peace track. This specifically will be the realist or neo realist approach to the study of international politics. This is important to the study because it is this approach that runs through Syriaââ¬â¢s positions during the peace process over the last seventeen years. Furthermore various U.S. decisions as the main negotiator in the peace process have been closely guided by the theory of realism. The approach of realism to international politics was born after the First World War. During this period it was widely held that other theories had failed, so it became necessary to seek for new theories that could give more meaning and understanding to international politics. According to this theory, human nature, character and the persistence of state power forms the basic foundation of international relations.
